چکیده

The objective of a 2 × 2 factorial study with laying hens was to evaluate the effect of dietary energy and DL-methionine (Met) supplementation in a high protein but sulphur amino acid deficient organic diet for laying hens on egg production, egg quality, and N retention and N excretion in manure. The model trial was conducted with 72 Bovans Brown hens from 24 to 53 weeks of age, allocated to 4 groups in 18 replicates. Each hen (replicate) was kept in an individual cage (40 cm × 40 cm) to enable individual feeding and collection of eggs. Hens were fed basal organic diets containing 180 g/kg crude protein and a lower (11.25 MJ) or higher (11.45 MJ) metabolizable energy (MEN) content. Basal diets contained relatively low levels of total methionine (2.63 g/kg) and sulphur amino acids (5.80 g/kg). The diets were supplemented or not with 0.6 g/kg DL-methionine (Met). Dietary energy level did not affect laying performance, but Met supplementation improved egg weight (P≤0.01), daily egg mass (P≤0.001), feed intake (P≤0.001), feed conversion per kg of eggs (P≤0.01) and yolk mass (P≤0.05). Met supplementation improved daily N retention (P≤0.05) and relative proportion of N retention to N intake (P≤0.01). The influence of Met on decreasing N content in excreta and N excretion was not statistically confirmed. A higher energy level in the diet, meanwhile, caused a statistically unverifiable increase in N content in excreta and daily N excretion in manure.
